Garland grew up in Edmonton, Alberta, and escaped the cold by heading to the west coast to complete her Bachelor of Kinesiology at the University of British Columbia. She fell in love with the ocean and mountains but returned home to earn her Master’s in Physiotherapy from the University of Alberta. Through volunteer work and student placements, she developed a passion for neurological rehabilitation, gaining experience in private practice, neuro pediatrics, and inpatient acute stroke. This led her to work at a neurological rehabilitation center in Calgary, where she treated individuals with stroke, spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis, and traumatic brain injuries.
Her treatment philosophy prioritizes patient-centered care, focusing on meaningful activities that align with each person’s goals. She strives to empower individuals with knowledge and confidence throughout their rehabilitation journey. In addition to neurological rehabilitation, Garland has worked in musculoskeletal physiotherapy, post-operative rehabilitation, and return-to-work programs, allowing her to take a well-rounded approach to orthopedic and neurological care. She values collaboration and works closely with interdisciplinary teams and community resources to support her clients.
Garland is a Certified PoNS Trainer and has additional training in manual therapy for neurological conditions. She has a love for learning and is always eager to expand her knowledge and skills. Excited to be back on the west coast, Garland enjoys exploring the island with her husband, hiking, camping, traveling abroad, and practicing Pilates. She also loves participating in adaptive sports and looks forward to trying new activities on the island—ideally followed by a stop at a local ice cream shop.
